The journey to Bloodstock ends here! 8 bands battle it out for a place at the best UK metal festival along with many more bands over the course of the day.
Metallers PANIC CELL headline the day as very special guests. Those who haven't seem them tear up stages alongside the likes of Testament, Children of Bodom and Kittie should not miss them!
Both SILENT DESCENT and DENOUNCE will be battling it out for prizes alongside the other 6 bands who qualified for the final but obviously cannot win the 'Bloodstock place' having played the festival last year.
The real battle of the day is between extreme metallers CARPATHIA, groove metallers SNAKEBITE, INTO EXILE who put in one of the best first heat performances, play-off winners SILAS, local venue crushers FALLING EMPIRE and also SHADOW ASPECT, REASONABLE DOUBT and COLT 44. The Bloodstock judge will pick one of these bands to grace the festival stage this summer.
The music does not stop there. The other stages see the best band not to qualify for the final SANCTORUM spread the metal gospel alongside everyones favourite all-dayer band ZOCALO. STANDING ON GIANTS, SISTER KETAMINE, VENXIA and Tier 2 Metal winners O.M.T also play.
DJ 69 and DJ LACUSTA maybe spinning some metal tunes between the bands.

GIG REVIEW
Band Quest Tier 2 Metal Final @ Bull n Vic - 25/05/09
1) O.M.T
2) Odessa Step Sequence
3) Shattered Alliance
4) Dystolic
5) Callous
6) Lycan's Blood
7) Seven
The tier 2 metal final was basically an all-dayer made up of the seven bands who just missed out on a tier 1 metal final spot (and with it a route to Bloodstock), plus four guest acts.
First of the guests was Roy Stone (6/10) who must hold a record for the amount of all day events he has opened up for over the years! Some of his older solo slots have been a blur of 1000mph guitar riffs and nothing else. Today he continues his more recent 'song' orientated approach by singing with lead guitar, with help from backing tracks. The reason he makes it work is down to 25+ years of song writing experience with one of the tracks sounding like early 80s Ozzy.
Sanity Burns (7.5) have followed up early promise with a series of consistantly impressive displays. Their thrash assault has so much melody pulsating through the heart of each song it's impossible not to be pulled along by it all. With the aggressive but melody-driven vocals and some top musicianship Sanity Burns may just be one of the best new bands to have been part of Band Quest in 2009.
The tough task of following such a good performance falls to Storm The Gates (6.5) who struggle to match the intensity from those before them. Despite this they play to an ever increasing crowd who lap up their slice of metal.
The first 'Band Quest' band of the day is Callous (6.5), who's Bullet For My Valentine style metal is technically impressive but lacks a certain edge in the same way Bullet For My Valentine way do.... Next band Dystolic (6.5) tend to hammer the walls with their industrialised riffs, providing us with one of the most intense thirty minute sets of the day. The songs though lack any hooks which leaves some people battered but unfulfilled. Lycan's Blood (6.5) fare better today than their play-off performance by letting the music do the talking, but ultimately fail to capture the crowds hearts. Shattered Alliance (7) have collected a fare number of fans due to their three muscular Band Quest sets. Their metalcore approach has been one of the biggest and loudest parts of the competition; something nobody is complaining about. Seven (6) try to mix melodic traditional vocals with some nice technical metal and at times nearly hit the spot. The vocals almost touch 'Rush' territory at times but the songs and singing power lack the oomph you would expect from a 'tier 2' band. As with their play-off performance Odessa Step Sequence (7.5) blast through thirty minutes of unrelenting death metal and endear themselves to the crowd while doing so. Brighton metallers O.M.T (8.5) are in a different league today and put on a display of superb musicianship, play some great songs and even get away with some cheesy Hammerfall moves on stage. Confident, solid, melodic, brutal - superb!
It was left to special guests Without Remorse (8) to finish off the day. The original venue stompers brushed away the cobwebs, welcomed a new drummer and reclaimed their stomping trophy with a powerful onslaught of aggressive thumping metal.
Now attention turns to next weeks Tier 1 final. See you all there!
