Every year it creeps up on us and every year thousands of us head to the Midlands to the legendary Donington Park!

Alternative metallers FAITH NO MORE have reformed and headline the Friday, SLIPKNOT the Saturday and English hard rock legends DEF LEPPARD close the festival on the Sunday.

Most of you will know the full line-up by now but make sure you catch two local bands. SILENT DESCENT play the campsite stage on Thursday. Expect that to be rammed! AFTER THE ORDEAL aren't actually at the festival but will play it from the comfort of their own bedroom! They will be screened live from the main stage after winning a competition. Don't miss it!

Other top young British bands to check out over the weekend which you may have not planned to see are SACRED MOTHER TONGUE, SYLOSIS, FOREVER NEVER and TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED.

Make sure you have a good time if you are going and get there and back safely!

Black metal has always had a love or hate relationship within the metal community. With Old Man's Child's latest release 'Slaves of the World' you get a balanced blackened metal offering that will either impress or once again split opinion.

Opening in top form with the slowly moving, dark title track, which perfectly sets the tone for the whole album, moving on to thrashings of dark metallic fury which don't let up for the entire output.

Guitar work is impressive, bringing the darkness is Dimmu Borgir guitar man Gaulder, proving that even outside Dimmu themselves he's still an accomplished guitarist and he's definately in his comfort zone here. The production is polished but still very raw, with some well placed panning and overall is a impressive sounding record.

Although it's black metal, and I'm assuming most listeners will be coming to OMC from Dimmu, it doesn't sound like a Dimmu spin-off, with it's old-skool riffs and manages to feel darker and deeper. I expect Dimmu fans will enjoy it but don't expect songs like 'Progenies' or 'Serpentine Offering' here.

'Slaves...' is an impressive, dark, metallic record proving that black metal can maybe appeal to a bigger audience, its a thoroughly enjoyable listen and well worth your time.

WHITECHAPEL are to headline the first day of Ghostfest 2009 which takes place at Rios, Leeds on June 27th and 28th.

Joining them will be Annotations Of An Autopsy, Azriel, The Eyes Of A Traitor, Ted Mail (all on 27th), Despised Icon, Sylosis, Your Demise, Dead Swans (all 28th) plus loads more spread across two stages.
