ALBUM REVIEW

SevenYearsDead – To The Ruin of All

It has seemed like a long time coming but after six years of touring and three eps SevenYearsDead have finally unleashed debut album 'To The Ruin of All'.

Influenced by Pantera (who isn't) and Machine Head with a healthy drop of Sebastian Bach era Skid Row, the album ebs and flows on a sea of riffs and impressive melodic vocal plays by singer Jezzo.

Opener 'Psycho II' has single potential containing more than enough catchy twists and turns. 'Postredengeration' with its almost industrial intro (thanks to some pummeling drumming from Nuno) is followed by 'Blindfold' which keeps the momentum going. 'Juggernaut' slows things down and lets the stoneresque riffage do the talking while the uplifting 'Chosen' adds the most melodic touch yet with help from some atmospheric guitar from Pete. 'Ill of the dead' gives the album one of its most melodic choruses as well as the biggest scream from Jezzo heard anywhere for a long time. 'Tide of panic' helps things along before the almighty 'Almost all' kicks in with yet another melodic chorus to die for and title track 'To the ruin fo all' takes proceedings up another gear with chugging precision. 'Deathwatch' manages to combine the good bits from most of the album into one track while 'Jacknife' complete with its break-neck drumming wouldn't be out of place on a Fear Factory recording. The acoustic 'Epitaph' settles everything down and ends the album superbly.

'To the ruin of all' is an adrenaline filled album full of big riffs and melody. It not only satisfies a current thirst for quality British metal but could also help push SevenYearsDead into one hell of a future - 7.5/10.
