ALBUM REVIEW

Album review - Wednesday 13 - 'Skeletons'

Wednesday 13

WEDNESDAY 13

Since hitting the big time with the Murderdolls Wednesday 13 has barely been out of public view. The Murderdolls album was followed by the debut disc from Wednesday 13, Transyvania 90210. Filled with catchy shock rockers this album and subsequent tour helped cement the band in peoples minds. The Fang Bang album was next and contained more of the same - songs about goblins, death, ghosts etc (you get the idea), albeit slightly heavier than its predecessor.

On album number three 'Skeletons' the heaviness has been pushed up another notch. Album opener 'Scream baby scream' recalls White Zombie with its semi-industrial riffage while 'Not another teenage anthem' is a typical Wednesday 13 single waiting to happen. Other highlights include 'Put your death mask on' with its heavy driving riff and the eerie versed title track 'Skeletons'.

As always with Wednesday 13 releases the album is full of 'interesting' lyrics such as "well sticks and stones can break your bones, but a 12 gage shotgun will blow your fucking head off" from 'No rabbit in a hat'.

The new found heaviness works well in places but seems to prevent some tracks realising their full shock horror potential and is some cases they lack a memorable hook so prevelant on the debut album.

Overall, this is a good album but one which falls short of previous outings. (7/10)
