BAND WITH NO NAME YET needs:

I've got some very talented musicians together and need a frontman. For an idea of what style I think listing some covers that we do should give everyone an idea - Vasoline-STP, Day that Never Comes-Metallica, Own Worst Enemy-Lit, In Bloom-Nirvana, State of Love and Trust-Pearl Jam. Ideally should be mid 20's to early 30's. Experience preferred but not essential. Just need a good style and a good set of pipes. An absolute shed load of original material already written for someone to stamp their identity and talent onto. Contact the band here: John Riddle jr224a@yahoo.com.

MUSIC INDUSTRY HELP
BBC Kent Introducing Tip Of The Week
One month today BBC Kent Introducing celebrate our first year on air. We've achieved a lot in that year thanks to your help, your music and your goodwill.
But I'm still frustrated because I know we can achieve so much more. Kent has the musical talent but we're not yet getting the national exposure we deserve.
I believe we can make this happen by working together for the greater good of the music scene as a whole, rather than purely focussing on individual success.
Each week this section will contain a tip of the week to help you with your music career.

GIG REVIEW
Band Quest Metal Heat 2 @ The Drayman - 23/02/09
1st: Colt 44
2nd: Seventh Sin
3rd: Roy Stone
From the offset this evening was never going to be as close as last weeks 1% difference between Silas and eventual winners Shattered Alliance.
Roy Stone (6/10) in truth did much better than expected. His classic metal style held up well considering it was just him, a guitar and a backing track. His voice matched the material well and the speed he plays the guitar would make even Dragonforce stand up and take notice. The songs were all well constructed but the real sticking point came with the guitar sound. At times is sounded like it was coming from a bathroom across the road rather than right in front of you. It had no crunch at all and it is a fault he will carry back into his day job with local classic metal band Conquest.
Second on were Seventh Sin (5.5) who should be awarded for their effort and conviction. This competition is a few years too early for them but tonight they sounded better than the previous occasions they have played. Some of their songs are already interesting so will be nice to see how these develop along with their musical skills.
With a sound somewhere between hard rock and metal Colt 44 (6.5) didn't have to do too much to win tonight. Their main advantage were the actual songs, especially the heavier track they finished the set with. At times though the intensity seemed to wane but was quickly restored by the next song. Expect Colt 44 to move up a gear or two in their semi-final.

GIG REVIEW
Hellfire Festival @ Islington Academy - 22/02/09
Having been at Heathrow on Friday and Judas Priest on Saturday I could only make the final day of the first Hellfire Festival. It was a shame in some ways as I missed Exodus, Overkill, Gama Bomb, Panic Cell, Firewind etc. You get the idea. Still Sunday boasted some fine bands, especially of the young British variety.
The first band on the main stage when we arrived were The Hollow Earth Theory (7/10). Their mature metalcore made for a good start to the day with some of the choruses really hitting home. Meanwhile on the Skuzz stage Idiom (8/10) throw a post-hardcore slant on everything from RATM, Sikth to Strapping Young Lad. Idiom's music pulsates around the Bar Academy like a thousand drills punctured by unhinged bouts of melodic extasy. Thrilling stuff! Cinders Fall (7.5) attract a big crowd and are also a pleasure to behold. In Flames and Dark Tranquility-esque vocals and rhythems are order of the day. The keyboards could have been higher in the mix but still good never-the-less. Back on the main stage were the Metal Hammer unsigned band of 2008, Outcryfire (7.5) who show off their groove-orientated metal. Anything that sounds like Lamb of God covering Iron Maiden must be good! The Dirty Youth (7.5), a last minute addition to the bill were a welcome respite to the heavier bands on the day. Although the female vocals are at times close to sounding like Hayley Williams of Paramore fame, they are offset against the heavier stylings of the band and work really well. Band of the day have to be Welsh metal titans Anterior (9). They take over the main stage like festival veterans and ram a dose of melodic death metal down the throats of the crowd. Melody and brutality sat closely side-by-side in a bloodbath of infectious riffs and guitar solos! It could have been unlucky for Forever Never (8) over on the Scuzz stage who were halfway through their set by the time Anterior had finished. Despite this they still had the Bar Academy packed and treated everyone to a set of quality of metal. More melodic than a lot of the bands on the bill each song seemed to hit you where it hurts, with no riff, chorus or vocal part going to waste. Forever Never certainly know how to pull every last ounce of power from their songs. Back on the main stage Exit Ten's (8) alt-metal proved to be as mesmerising as ever before the Kory-less Warrior Soul (8) still managed to use their punky rock anthems to nearly bring the house down. Kory Clarke was missing as he had been deported earlier. It's just a shame that manic terrorists can't be deported as quickly, but as we all know rock singers are far more dangerous than those individuals who want to blow us all up.... British thrash legends Sabbat (8) were the first band of the day to really get the heads banging with their trad-thrash onslaught, which also led to a surge to the stage. While Martin Walkyier and co were slaying the assembled metallers Malefice (7.5) were finishing off things on the Scuzz stage in style. The final band of the day were Breed 77 (7.5) who although didn't hit the heights of last years excellent Underworld show still brought the first Hellfire Festival to a suitable end. Tracks like 'Petroleo', 'Blind' and their cover of 'Zombie' always push the right buttons live, while tracks from upcoming album 'Insects' were their heaviest material by far.
What Hellfire did better than any other festival so far is showcase the talent we have in Britain. A lot of the best young British bands were here, under one roof, at one festival. This was topped off by some bigger bands which made the Sunday (and from what I heard the whole weekend) one of the best live experiences this year.
Hellfire made it rock, made it metal and made it loud.

METAL BLADE NEWS
GOD DETHRONED frontman Henri Sattler explains lyrical concept of ‘Passiondale’!
As everyone knows or should know the upcoming new album of GOD DETHRONED ‘Passiondale’ is a concept album about the battle of Passendale around the city of the same name in World War I. Mainman Henri Sattler explains how he came up with the story and the concept: “It says Passendale on the street sign. The little village with it´s huge Tyne Cot cemetery and memorial centre. I passed it many times on the way to Isaac (Delahaye, our former guitar player) for another of our notorious drinking sessions in Ypres not far from the French border. I got really impressed by how this town breathes World War I. The numerous cemeteries, the Menin Gate with its daily last post ceremony since 1929 with the exception of just one day during a bombardment in World War II, the buildings that have been rebuilt in their original state and definitely all the English, Irish and Scottish people that visit Ypres every weekend, probably because one of their relatives died there during the war. During the night at the bars & pubs they tended to get really drunk and sang louder than the barman could crank up the stereo set! It’s during these times that I got inspired by the Great War and decided to write a concept album about it. Ypres and Passendale were the center of war activities during the war with around 900,000 casualties compared to 9 million worldwide. I realized how harsh it must have been there during those 4 years. Passchendaele was the official name of the little village during the war, but since the English speaking armies couldn’t pronounce that, they nicknamed it to: Passiondale ‘Passiondale’ will be released as a double-digipak including a 9-track bonus-cd ('Live in 2005') as a regular jewelcase cd and on vinyl (ltd. to 666 copies)!
‘Passiondale’ is set for release the 24th/27th of April in Europe!
